The Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) welcomes confirmation that the supply of Ozempic (semaglutide) in Australia has stabilised, with previous prescribing and supply restrictions now lifted.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has officially removed Ozempic from its medicines shortage list, effective 18 July 2025, after manufacturer Novo Nordisk confirmed supply has improved.

Stock levels are now sufficient to support both starting Ozempic for new clients and continuing access for people already using it.

However, it may take time for some local pharmacies to fully restock, so people living with diabetes are encouraged to check with their pharmacy or ask their pharmacist to contact their wholesaler if supply issues continue.

Please note, the 1.5 mL Ozempic 0.25 mg/0.5 mg pre-filled pen is being replaced by a new 3 mL pen.

Ozempic remains subsidised under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for only type 2 diabetes. It is not approved for weight loss or other off-label uses.
