The Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) and Wellness Coaching Australia (WCA) have joined forces to launch a new microcredential series designed to give health professionals the practical skills to support meaningful behaviour change in people living with diabetes.
These four microcredentials are short, focused courses that help learners quickly build and apply new skills, using evidence-based strategies to move beyond traditional education and empower clients to set realistic goals, build confidence, and achieve sustainable lifestyle changes.
The series, Foundations of Health and Wellness Coaching for Diabetes Educators, is aimed at Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs), diabetes health professionals, and clinicians seeking to integrate evidence-based coaching and communication strategies into their practice.
Each microcredential is CPD-accredited and designed for real-world application in client interactions.
The four health and wellness coaching microcredentials:
Empowering diabetes self-management
Coaching skills and positive psychology
Vision, change readiness and self-efficacy
Action planning, goal setting and ethical coaching
This microcredential series supports CDE credentialling requirements in communication, motivational interviewing, and person-centred care.
Completing the full series provides recognition of prior learning toward Wellness Coaching Australia’s nationally recognised certification, accredited by the Health Coaches Australia and New Zealand Association (HCANZA).
This recognition positions the microcredentials as the first step in an extended professional development pathway.
"We're excited to collaborate with Wellness Coaching Australia on this initiative, which gives CDEs and other health professionals access to approaches that strengthen person-centred care," Acting ADEA CEO Melanie Morris said.
"Together, we're creating opportunities for professionals to embed coaching principles in their practice."
Fiona Cosgrove, Managing Director of Wellness Coaching Australia, said they were "delighted to be partnering with ADEA to provide this training that will enhance the work that CDEs are already doing to tackle the major problem that diabetes is presenting".
"We feel that coming together and sharing our education in this way can only result in more effective results and open up new concepts for diabetes professionals to embrace," Ms Cosgrove said.
The joint initiative reinforces ADEA’s role as a trusted provider of skills-based education and WCA’s strong track record in evidence-based health coaching.
It also contributes to ADEA’s commitment to upskilling CDEs and to expanding its suite of microcredential offerings.
The microcredential series launches as a bundle today and is available exclusively through the ADEA Learning Management System.
