About the event
This session of the ADEA Diabetes Education Research Journal Club will focus on how culture shapes diabetes care. Presentations will explore how stories, belief systems, and community shape people’s experiences of diabetes and influence treatment, coping, and access to care. The discussion will highlight ways to build cultural empathy and deliver more inclusive and effective education and support.

Dr Shannon Lin
Presentation: Stories that heal: building cultural empathy in diabetes care
Dr Shannon Lin is a Fellow of Dietitians Australia, Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian and CDE with more than 20 years of experience in diabetes and nutrition. Shannon completed her PhD in diabetes and health literacy in vulnerable groups in 2022. She dedicates her efforts to many diabetes clinics in primary healthcare setting including leading the diabetes clinic at AMS Redfern and Illawarra AMS in the past two decades.
