Branch Chair: Teresa Hyatt
Teresa initially completed a hospital nurse training in Hammersmith, London (1988), since then has completed a Bachelor’s degree and several post-grad qualifications. Teresa has worked in Canada and Australia as a nurse primarily in the acute hospital setting in haematology and nephrology. It was whilst working as a renal nurse in Darwin that Teresa developed an interest in Diabetes, completing her Graduate Certificate through Deakin University. Teresa worked as a Diabetes Educator at Royal Darwin Hospital for several years. Currently employed by Top End Health services as Primary Health Care-Outreach Diabetes Educator; this means Teresa is lucky enough to visit a number of Top End Communities to practice. Teresa believes that it is important that all Australians regardless of their location should have access to quality advice and education and encouragement in managing their chronic conditions. In her new position as NT Branch Chair, she hopes to continue to improve the collegial support and connections between Diabetes Educators across the NT.
